​Work Will Require a Shoulder Closure, Traffic Shift with Intermittent Flagging 

(April 17, 2025) – The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration announces that Allegany County will begin replacing a water main on MD 53 (Winchester Road) between Warrior Drive and US 40 (National Pike) in LaVale starting April 21. The county project will be completed by the end of August, weather permitting.    

Drivers can expect shoulder closures, traffic shifts and occasional single-lane closures Mondays through Fridays from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. There may be intermittent night paving within the shoulder work between 7 p.m. and 5 a.m. Belt Construction, Inc. of Cumberland, will be performing the work. Crews will use electronic message boards, signs, barrels and cones to notify motorists about the work zone, and the lane shift.    

Motorists are encouraged to stay alert, slow down and focus on driving safely through work zones.
