US 50 sign
Weekend Ramp Closures and Detours Planned through December
(November 20, 2024) – The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration will begin a ramp resurfacing project this Friday, November 22 at the US 50/MD 704 interchange in Lanham. The project should be complete in early December, weather permitting.
The resurfacing work includes removing the top layer of asphalt, paving and restriping. Electronic message signs are in place to advise motorists of the ramp closures and associated detours ahead. Additional lane closures and work hours may be necessary to expedite this work.
The work will require weekend overnight ramp closures and detours from 8 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. the following Monday.
Crews will close the ramps as follows:
- The weekend of Friday, November 22: US 50 eastbound to MD 704 westbound and US 50 eastbound to MD 704 eastbound.
- The weekend of Friday, November 22: MD 704 westbound to US 50 westbound and MD 704 eastbound to US 50 westbound.
- The weekend of Friday, December 6: US 50 westbound to MD 704 westbound and US 50 westbound to MD 704 eastbound.
There will be no ramp closures over the Thanksgiving holiday weekend.
The State Highway Administration understands that roadwork can be an inconvenience, but the work is necessary to ensure a safe and reliable highway network. Motorists are asked to slow down, be patient, allow extra travel time, stay alert and move over when approaching a work zone.
Contractor Allan Myers, of Fallston, MD, will use arrow boards, cones, and barrels to safely guide motorists through the work zones. Customers who have questions may contact the District 3 Office at 301-513-7300 or toll-free at 1-800-749-0737.
Motorists in need may dial #77 on their mobile devices for roadside assistance.
