The $3.4 million project to improve intersection safety included construction of new traffic signals, a new “red signal ahead” advance warning beacon on eastbound US 40, auxiliary lanes for turning/merging, and drainage improvements. To maximize traffic flow and efficiency during peak travel periods, the new signals are interconnected/coordinated with existing signals at the nearby US 40/MD 279 intersection.
