Motorists Can Expect Overnight Lane Shifts, Closures on Southbound I-95 Between MD 214 (Central Avenue) and MD 4 (Pennsylvania Avenue)
(July 18, 2024) –The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration will begin a resurfacing project on southbound I-95 between MD 214 (Central Avenue) and MD 4 (Pennsylvania Avenue) on Sunday, July 21. The pavement improvement project should be complete in late summer 2024, weather permitting.
The resurfacing work includes milling (removing the top layer of asphalt), paving and restriping. The work will take place 8 p.m. to 5 a.m., Sundays through Thursdays, and will require single-, double- and occasional triple-lane closures. Closing three travel lanes during work hours will provide a buffer between the paved area and the open travel lane and establish a safe work zone for the public and the crews working overnight. Electronic message signs are in place to advise motorists of the upcoming work.
The State Highway Administration understands that roadwork can be an inconvenience, but the work is necessary to ensure a safe and reliable highway network. Motorists are asked to slow down, be patient, allow extra travel time, stay alert and move over when approaching a work zone. Once the work is complete, motorists will have an improved ride quality on I-95 and I-495.
