Nighttime Single Lane Closures in Effect

(August 13, 2019) –The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration (MDOT SHA) continues to work on a sidewalk reconstruction project along southbound MD 178 (Generals Highway) between Bestgate Road and MD 450 (Defense Highway) in Anne Arundel County. The project began on Aug. 4 and should be complete early September.

MDOT SHA’s contractor, AJ Romano Construction, Inc. of Laurel, is installing new ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act)- compliant sidewalks and ramps. The project will enhance pedestrian access in Annapolis.

The work is taking place using single lane closures between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m. through early September and is part of a $3 million project to retrofit and upgrade sidewalks throughout Anne Arundel, Calvert, Charles and St. Mary’s counties.

MDOT SHA works hard to maintain safe traffic mobility in work zones for our crews as well as our contractor. Drivers need to stay alert, focus on the road and look for reduced speed limits, narrow driving lanes and highway workers. Drive like you work here and slowdown in construction zones.
