Motorists to be Detoured for Three Weeks Beginning June 5
Motorists traveling eastbound will be detoured to Oak Orchard Road to Sams Creek Road then S. Marston Road, MD 407 (Marston Road) and back to MD 31. Westbound traffic will use the same detour in reverse order. Variable message signs are in place to alert motorists about the upcoming closure. Cones and signs will be used to guide motorists through the detour route.
Approximately 2,350 motorists use this section of MD 31 each day, so motorists are urged to plan extra commute time. The estimated cost of the slope repair is $600,000.
MDOT SHA works hard to maintain safe traffic mobility in work zones for our crews as well as our contractor. Drivers need to stay alert, focus on the road and look for reduced speed limits, narrow driving lanes and highway workers. Drive like you work here and slowdown in construction zones.
