(April 29, 2019) – Beginning May 1, the Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration (MDOT SHA) will close and detour MD 77 (Foxville Road) between Pryor Road and Stottlemyer Road to replace 46 aging culverts. MD 77 will be closed and detoured from May 1 to May 23. The entire $2.1 million project will be complete summer 2020.

Motorists will be detoured using MD 77 to US 15 (Catoctin Mountain Highway) to MD 550 (Sabillasville Road) to Foxville Deerfield Road and back to MD 77. After May 23, MD 77 will reopen to travel in both directions with flagging operations weekdays from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., and occasionally overnights from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m.

In addition to replacing the culverts, crews will clean existing drain pipes and inlets. Crews will also pave and restripe the road.

MDOT SHA’s contractor, Highway & Safety Services, Inc. of Gaithersburg, will use detour signs, barrels and cones to guide motorists through the work zone. Approximately 3,900 vehicles use this section of Foxville Road each day, so motorists are encouraged to allow extra commuting time during the project.

MDOT SHA works hard to maintain safe traffic mobility in work zones for our crews as well as our contractor. Drivers need to stay alert, focus on the road and look for reduced speed limits, narrow driving lanes and highway workers. Drive like you work here and slowdown in construction zones.
