(April 26, 2019) – The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration (MDOT SHA) continues to improve safety and ride quality on York Road (MD 45). MDOT SHA will begin a new $3.2 million resurfacing project in Towson, while continuing a $15.6 million water line replacement and resurfacing project in Cockeysville. The Towson work will be complete late-fall, while the water line replacement and resurfacing project in Cockeysville will be complete fall 2021.

In Towson, crews will patch, mill, pave and restripe more than one-mile of York Road between the Towson Roundabout and Cavan Drive (north of I-695/Baltimore Beltway). Crews will also repair or reconstruct concrete curbs and gutters, drainage inlets, and sidewalks to ADA- standards.

Motorists can expect single lane closures Sunday nights through Friday mornings between 8 p.m. and 5 a.m. MDOT SHA’s contractor, Gray and Son, Inc. of Timonium, will use barrels and temporary signs to guide motorists through the work zone. This section of York Road carries between 16,000 and 40,000 vehicles daily.

In Cockeysville, MDOT SHA continues to improve 2.5 miles of York Road between north of Padonia Road and Wight Avenue. The project started late last summer. Through a financial partnership with Baltimore County Department of Public Works, MDOT SHA is replacing the county’s main water line underneath York Road and repairing and resurfacing the pavement. This section of York Road carries an average of 28,000 to 32,000 vehicles per day.

This combined project also includes highway safety improvements such as: repair of drainage inlets; reconstruction of existing curbs, ramps, sidewalks and driveways to ADA standards; upgrades to traffic signs and traffic signal equipment where needed.

Motorists should expect lane closures Sunday nights through Friday mornings between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m. the next day. MDOT SHA’s contractor for this project is Civil Construction, LLC of Cheverly.

MDOT SHA works hard to maintain safe traffic mobility in work zones for our crews as well as our contractors. Drivers need to stay alert, focus on the road and look for reduced speed limits, narrow driving lanes and highway workers. Drive like you work here and slowdown in construction zones.
