Beam Placements April 19-20 Will Require Daytime Lane Closures
(April 18, 2016) – Following a productive winter of bridge pier work on MD 404 (Shore Highway), the Maryland Department of Transportation’s State Highway Administration (SHA) is ready to install 18 concrete beams as part of the new westbound bridge over Tuckahoe Creek.
The beam placements will occur this Tuesday, April 19 and Wednesday, April 20 and will require a single lane closure and flagging operation on MD 404 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Motorists should expect delays. Weather permitting, SHA will place all 18 of the 70-foot long beams during the two-day period.
This work is part of the 1.58 mile
MD 404 dualization from west of MD 309 to east of Cemetery Road near the town of Queen Anne. SHA anticipates that the work will be complete summer 2017. A new MD 404 eastbound bridge over Tuckahoe Creek opened to traffic last November.
SHA awarded an $18 million construction contract to David A. Bramble of Chestertown. On average, more than 20,000 vehicles travel this portion of MD 404 each day and the route serves as a major link to Delaware and Maryland beaches and a significant agricultural corridor for the eastern shore.
Construction season is underway. “
Think Orange” in work zones and slow down and pay full attention.
SHA’s e-Road Ready 2016 electronic construction project brochure is online. Maryland drivers can also know before they go by calling 511 or visiting
