To date, crews have completed portions of constructing medians, inlets and curb and gutter and sidewalks for Americans With Disability Act (ADA) compliance. Currently, crews are performing electrical and other infrastructure improvements that will support new traffic signals on the northbound and southbound I-495 ramps to MD 185.
On December 1 (weather permitting), crews will close the ramp from the Outer Loop of I-495 to northbound MD 185 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Drivers should make a right at the bottom of the ramp to continue onto northbound MD 185. This will complete all work on the ramps for the fall; additional work on the ramps will take place next spring or summer.
Drivers should be aware of changing traffic patterns along MD 185 through the end of the completion of all phases of work, including single northbound and southbound lane closures, weekdays, between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. SHA will use electronic message boards, construction cones and barrels to direct motorists through the work zone.
This fall and winter, crews will perform limited project activity. Once warmer temperatures return next spring crews will complete all other project activity including installing new guardrail, constructing storm drains and resurfacing all traffic lanes.
When resurfacing is performed later next year, SHA may close up to lanes in both directions of MD 185, overnight, Sunday through Thursday, 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. SHA’s contactor for the work is Kline, LLC of Clarksburg. Nearly 65,000 motorists use this section of MD 185 daily.
As crews work to keep work zones safe, each driver needs to actively modify his or her driving style to help prevent crashes. Stay alert – look for reduced speed limits, narrow driving lanes and highway workers. Slow down and don’t follow too closely. Safer Driving. Safer Work Zones. For Everyone!
