(November 27, 2013) – The Maryland State Highway Administration (SHA) is beginning a $420,000 project to upgrade ramps and driveways to meet Americans with Disabilities (ADA) standards along one mile of MD 350 (Mount Hermon Road) from East Main Street to Beaglin Park Drive in Salisbury, Wicomico County. SHA will begin the ADA upgrade project on Monday, December 2 with completion scheduled by March 2014, weather permitting.

The new ADA ramps are being constructed prior to the resurfacing of this section of MD 350, expected to occur next summer. The majority of the improvement to the sidewalk ramps and aprons will occur along the north side of MD 350.

During construction crews are permitted to close a single lane from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Monday through Friday. SHA will use variable message signs, as well as cones and barrels to direct traffic through the work zone.

Businesses and residents in the immediate area will be notified in advance when the contractor will be working in the areas adjacent to their properties. SHA’s contractor for the work is JJID, of Bear, Del.

While SHA and its transportation partners work hard to maintain safe traffic mobility in work zones, each driver needs to actively modify his or her driving style to help prevent crashes. Stay alert and look for reduced speed limits, narrow driving lanes and highway workers.  Slow down and don’t follow too closely. Safer driving. Safer Work Zones. For everyone!
