(August 22, 2013)  – This weekend, motorists should remain aware of the new traffic pattern in Laurel.  Between tomorrow morning, Friday, August 23 at 6 a.m. and Saturday, August 24 at 4 p.m., the existing Van Dusen Road/Virginia Manor Road intersection will be closed to motorists.  The two-way traffic pattern will be shifted to the new eastbound Virginia Manor Road/Contee Road that intersects with the existing Van Dusen Road. All work is weather permitting.

Access to Van Dusen Road will remain open via the existing Contee Road/Van Dusen Road intersection. The temporary Virginia Manor/Contee Road/Van Dusen Road intersection will function as a three way stop.   Construction of the final phase at this intersection at Van Dusen Road and new Contee Road will continue through this fall.

The new intersection is located on the east end of the I-95 Contee Road interchange project that will tie in with work being performed by Prince George’s County for the new Virginia Manor Road.  Access to the old Virginia Manor Road will be closed. Access to Van Dusen Road will remain open.

The work is part of a $35.5 million I-95/Contee Road interchange construction project in Laurel. SHA will use electronic message boards, construction barrels and cones and arrow boards to guide motorists through the work zone. As crews work to keep work zones safe, each driver needs to actively modify his or her driving style to help prevent crashes. Stay alert – look for reduced speed limits, narrow driving lanes and highway workers. Slow down and don’t follow too closely. Safer Driving. Safer Work Zones. For Everyone!
