(June 21, 2011) – Starting tomorrow, the Maryland State Highway Administration (SHA) will resurface MD 435 (Taylor Avenue) from MD 450 (King George Street) across MD 70 (Rowe Boulevard) to the end of state maintenance near Rosedale Street and Cedar Park Road in Annapolis.

Crews are scheduled to begin on Taylor Avenue at Rowe Boulevard on Wednesday, June 22.  Work includes patching and resurfacing the left turn lanes.  To ensure the safest possible working conditions and minimize impacts to homes, businesses and traffic, SHA will perform this work during off-peak travel hours, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Motorists in the area should expect occasional single-lane closures on Taylor Avenue and the MD 70 left turn lanes.  SHA expects this work to be completed by late summer, weather permitting.

This project is funded under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 and is part of a multi-location “areawide” resurfacing contract for Anne Arundel County.  SHA awarded the overall $7.25 million contract to Reliable Contracting of Millersville.

Construction season is here with numerous active work zone sites that include major construction projects taking months to complete and mobile operations taking only minutes.  While SHA and its transportation partners work hard to maintain safe traffic mobility in work zones, each driver needs to actively modify his or her driving style to help prevent crashes. Stay alert - look for reduced speed limits, narrow driving lanes and highway workers.  Slow down and don't follow too closely.  Safer Driving. Safer Work Zones.  For everyone.
