STATE HIGHWAY ADMINISTRATION TO CLEAN AND PAINT MD 313 SHARPTOWN BRIDGE OVER NANTICOKE RIVER IN WICOMICO COUNTY

MD 313

MD 313

Motorists Should Expect Daytime Delays Through Mid-May

(April 5, 2023) The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration is continuing a project to extend the service life of the MD 313 Sharptown Bridge over the Nanticoke River in the town of Sharptown. The State Highway Administration will blast clean and paint the structural steel underneath the roadway.

Because the blast cleaning and painting equipment must be staged on the bridge, motorists can expect 24-hour single lane closures with automated flagging operations on the bridge beginning the week of April 17.  Lane widths will be approximately 15’ across the bridge for the duration of the project.  Weather permitting, the cleaning and painting work should be completed by May 17, 2023.

Cleaning and painting the bridges preserves existing steel sections and protects them from corrosion which could cause expensive and time-consuming repairs and bridge closures in the future.

The State Highway Administration understands the closures will inconvenience some travelers and asks all motorists to please stay alert and be patient as you pass through the work zone.
