Effort is Part of Operation Clean Sweep Maryland; Single Lane Closure Required for Crew Safety

(February 27, 2023) – The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration will remove litter on eastbound I-70 between Exit 52, US 15/US 340 and Exit 53, I-270 in Frederick County tomorrow, February 28. Starting at 10 a.m. Tuesday, crews will close the left lane and motorists will use a single right lane to travel through this section of eastbound I-70. The work is expected to be complete by 1 p.m. the same day.

The single-lane closure is necessary to enhance safety for State Highway Administration crews removing large debris and litter. Crews will also clear brush in this area to improve sightlines for motorists. The State Highway Administration appreciates the public’s cooperation as this work is accomplished.

The litter removal is part of Operation Clean Sweep Maryland, a new State Highway Administration initiative that will nearly double the frequency of litter pickup and mowing efforts along Maryland roads. Learn more about the program by clicking here.

The State Highway Administration maintains safety in work zones for our crews as well as motorists. Drivers need to stay alert, stay focused, look for reduced speed limits as well as driving pattern changes, and slow down in construction zones.
