MDOT SHA to Restore Four-Lane Traffic Pattern on the Bridge on June 13

(June 10, 2022) – The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration (MDOT SHA) will implement the final traffic pattern shift next week for the Cove Road bridge over I-695 (Baltimore Beltway) in Dundalk, weather permitting. The work is part of the $5.2 million project to rehabilitate the Cove Road bridge.

On or after 9 a.m. Monday, June 13, crews will remove the temporary two-way, two-lane traffic pattern from the eastbound/south side of the bridge. The traffic pattern switch will require temporary flagging operations and single-lane closures 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday. Once the final traffic pattern is in place, all four lanes of the bridge will be open during peak-travel hours.

Temporary single-lane closures may take place on the bridge and on I-695 between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. Mondays through Fridays, and overnight from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m. Sunday evenings through Friday mornings, as crews to complete final construction tasks. Work is expected to be complete this summer.

MDOT SHA’s contractor is Concrete General Inc., of Gaithersburg. Learn more about the project here.

MDOT SHA works hard to maintain safe traffic mobility in work zones for our crews as well as our customers. Drivers need to stay alert, focus on driving and look for reduced speed limits as well as other driving pattern changes. Please drive like you work here and slow down in construction zones.

Motorists in need may dial #77 on their mobile device for roadside assistance.
