(May 9, 2022) – The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration (MDOT SHA) will begin reconstruction work tonight, Monday, May 9, on the I-70 (Dwight Eisenhower Highway) eastbound bridge in Washington County, as part of the project to widen and rehabilitate the I-70 bridges over MD 65. The work will require the closure of the ramp to Exit 29 B, MD 65 (Sharpsburg Pike) beginning at 8 p.m. tonight and continuing through September.

During the closure, crews working on the outside lane of the I-70 bridge. Motorists will follow a posted detour to US 40 (Old National Pike) westbound to I-70 westbound to MD 65. Crews will use traffic barrels and cones to close the ramp.

MDOT SHA contractor C. William Hetzer, of Hagerstown, will perform the work. Learn more about the project HERE.

MDOT SHA works hard to maintain safe traffic mobility in work zones for our crews as well as our customers. Drivers need to stay alert, focus on driving, and look for reduced speed limits, as well as other driving pattern changes. Please drive like you work here and slow down in construction zones.

Motorists in need may dial #77 on their mobile device for roadside assistance.
