WHAT:
Temporary continuous closure of the southbound right lane of MD 295 (Baltimore-Washington Parkway) between I-695 (Baltimore Beltway) and I-195 in Anne Arundel County.

WHEN:
Friday, June 3 beginning at 11:00 p.m. and continuing through 5:00 a.m. Sunday, June 5, weather permitting.
NOTE: Times are approximate and may vary depending on traffic and field conditions.  While SHA expects to complete this work by Saturday evening, additional time may be needed for proper concrete curing.

WHERE:
MD 295 southbound, from I-695 to I-195.  Northbound lanes will not be affected.  To ensure the safety of workers and motorists, SHA must begin the lane closure just north of I-695 (inside the Beltway).  Motorists should plan ahead and consider using alternate routes during these times such as I-95, I-97 and US 1.

WHY:
SHA needs to cut sections of pavement on MD 295 in this area as part of the current widening project.  Several asphalt sections should be filled fairly quickly, however, one large concrete section (6 ft. long by 12 ft. wide) will require approximately 12 hours of curing time before the lane can safely be reopened to traffic.

Once concrete is poured, motorists may not see significant construction activity while the new concrete sets; restricting travel on the new concrete is critical to ensure the proper strength of the pavement before reopening to traffic.

SAFETY:
Construction season is here with numerous active work zone sites that include major construction projects taking years to complete and mobile operations taking only minutes.  While SHA and its transportation partners work hard to maintain safe traffic mobility in work zones, each driver needs to actively modify his or her driving style to help prevent crashes. Stay alert - look for reduced speed limits, narrow driving lanes and highway workers.  Slow down and don't follow too closely.  Safer Driving. Safer Work Zones.  For everyone.
