Drivers Can Expect Lane Shifts During the Repair Project
(July 21, 2023) - The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration will begin a project to repair concrete roadway on MD 17 (Burkittsville Road) at the Potomac River Bridge approach and at the turn lane onto Maryland Avenue in Brunswick on Monday, July 24. The concrete repairs should be complete by mid-August, weather permitting.
Starting at 9 a.m. on Monday, crews will begin saw cutting, patching, and pouring new concrete and enabling the concrete to come to the proper strength to support vehicular traffic. Concrete takes up to 24 hours to cure. Drivers can expect lane shifts Mondays through Fridays 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Crews are still working on MD 17 at the approach to the Potomac River Bridge, and will work 8/28 - 8/30 with a 24-hour flagging operation.
Contractor MIM Construction of Mount Airy, will use signs, barrels, and cones, to safely guide motorists through the work zone.
The State Highway Administration understands lane closures associated with road construction may be an inconvenience, but the work is necessary to maintain a world-class transportation system. Motorists are reminded to slow down and pay close attention while driving through the work zone.
