Drivers Can Expect Temporary Intermittent Lane and Shoulder Closures in Both Directions of I-68 Throughout the Project

(July 10, 2023) – The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration will begin a cleaning and painting project Wednesday, July 12, on the US 219 bridge over 1-68 (National Freeway) (exit 14). Weather permitting, the project is expected to be completed by the end of August.

Single-lane closures will occur 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily on I-68, including some weekend work. Double-lane closures will occur Sunday through Thursday, 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. the next morning, to minimize delays on I-68. Shoulder closures both east and westbound on I-68 (National Freeway) will be in place throughout the project. Portable message boards, construction cones and barrels will be used to guide motorists safely through the work zone.

Contractor Klicos Painting Company Inc., of Tarpon Springs, Fla., will perform the work. The State Highway Administration understands lane closures and temporary detours can be an inconvenience but are necessary to maintain a safe and reliable transportation system.

Warm weather is here, and all motorists are urged to remain vigilant for pedestrians, bicyclists, and motorcyclists. Remember motorcycles can be hidden from view in vehicle blind spots. Please look twice and save a life.

Motorists in need may dial #77 on their mobile devices for roadside assistance.
