Update: Bridge Will Be Closed Daily Between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. Monday, March 13 Through Friday, March 24; Motorists Encouraged to Allow Extra Drive Time During Project
(March 10, 2023) – The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration will conduct a project to improve drainage and the driving surface of the US 40 (National Pike) bridge over westbound I-70 (Exit 9) in Indian Springs beginning Monday, March 13. To safely perform the work and expedite the repairs, the bridge will be closed daily from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m through Friday, March 24, weather permitting. This work timeline has been extended due to high winds and weather. No lane closures will occur on I-70.
Motorists will be detoured using 1-70 Exit 12 turn left off the ramp onto MD 56 westbound (Big Pool Road) and continue to US 40. Motorists should allow additional drive time during the repair and maintenance work. The State Highway Administration’s contractor, Concrete General, Inc. of Gaithersburg, will use barrels, cones, and detour signs to guide motorists safely and conveniently through the work zone.
Drivers are asked to slow down through the work zone for the safety of all drivers and the crews working to improve state roadways. The State Highway Administration understands the closures will inconvenience some travelers and asks all motorists to please stay alert and be patient as you pass through the work zone.
Motorists in need may dial #77 on their mobile device for roadside assistance.
