​Motorists Should Expect Overnight Lane Closures Through Late Fall 

(September 22, 2022) – The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration (MDOT SHA) will begin work Sunday, September 25, on a project to improve pavement on MD 24 (Vietnam Veterans Memorial Highway) between MD 924 (Tollgate Road/Emmorton Road) and MacPhail Road near Bel Air. The $4 million project is expected to be complete by late fall, weather permitting.

Crews will work overnight, 8 p.m. to 5 a.m., Sunday nights to Friday mornings, to mill, resurface and restripe MD 24. Motorists should expect single-lane closures during work hours. MDOT SHA contractor Allan Myers – MD Inc., of Fallston, will use temporary signs, electronic arrow boards and barrels to alert and guide motorists safely through the work zones.

Beginning October 1, 2022, the Move Over Law in Maryland will require motorists to make a lane change or slow down when approaching any stopped, standing, or parked vehicle displaying hazard warning lights, road flares or other caution signals. The expanded law is in place to protect emergency responders and motorists who encounter a roadside emergency.
