Daytime Work on MD 77 will Cover a Span of Five Miles
(August 3, 2021) – The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration (MDOT SHA) will upgrade portions of guardrail along MD 77 (Foxville Road) between Tippin Drive and Stottlemeyer Road in the Thurmont area of Frederick County.
Starting tomorrow, crews will remove the existing guardrail along a span of five miles and replace it with guardrail that meets the current Manual for Assessing Safety Hardware (MASH) standards set by the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO). Crews will work Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The project on MD 77 is expected to take two weeks to complete.
MDOT SHA’s contractor, Guardrails, Etc., Inc., will use cones and barrels to alert motorists about the work zones and flagging operation. There will also be a truck mounted attenuator (TMA) within the work zone to protect crews and motorists.
MDOT SHA works hard to maintain safe traffic mobility in work zones for our crews as well as our customers. Drivers need to stay alert, focus on driving and look for reduced speed limits. Slow down and be alert in construction zones to help ensure our teams get home safely to their families.
Stranded motorists can dial #77 or 911 on their mobile device for roadside assistance.

From intersection improvements to widening and new interchange construction, MDOT SHA is investing in projects to enhance the commute and daily travel for millions of Marylanders. MDOT SHA maintains more than 2,500 bridges and 17,000 miles of non-toll state roads – the interstate, US and state numbered routes in Maryland’s 23 counties.
