(August 7, 2020) - The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration (MDOT SHA) will open the new MD 355 (Urbana Pike) bridge within the historic Monocacy National Battlefield in Frederick County on Monday, Aug. 10.
There will be a single lane closure with a flagging operation starting at 5 a.m. Work is expected to be complete by 5 p.m. The temporary MD 355 bridge will be removed on a later date.
This is part of a $14 million project to replace an 87-year-old bridge, install an eight-foot wide sidewalk on the east side of the new bridge, add bicycle-compatible shoulders, and build new pedestrian trails on both sides of the CSX railroad tracks to enhance access to the Monocacy National Battlefield. The larger project is expected to complete this fall. Learn more about it HERE.
MDOT SHA’s contractor, C. William Hetzer, Inc. of Hagerstown, is using electronic message boards, signs and barrels to alert motorists about the closures and flagging operations.
MDOT SHA works hard to maintain safe traffic mobility in work zones for our crews as well as our customers. Drivers need to stay alert, focus on driving and, look for reduced speed limits, as well as other driving pattern changes. Drive like you work here and slow down in construction zones.
