​(July 27, 2020) – The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration (MDOT SHA) will install and turn on a new traffic signal on MD 180 (Jefferson Pike) at Himes Avenue in Frederick starting tonight, July 27, at 8 p.m. and will finish by 5 a.m. During that time, crews will also remove the old traffic signal. The work requires single lane closures with a flagging operation at the intersection and on the exit ramp from southbound US 15 (Catoctin Mountain Highway).    

On Tuesday, July 28 and Wednesday, July 29, crews will close the right lane of the MD 180 exit ramp to northbound US 15 at the Solarex Court intersection to install new ramp lighting which will enhance safety in this area. Crews will work from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m. both days. 

The work is part of MDOT SHA’s project to construct a new bridge to carry MD 180 eastbound traffic over US 15. The new bridge is expected to open to traffic by early September. The contractor, Concrete General, Inc., may work Saturdays going forward in addition to the Monday through Friday schedule to complete the project on time.
