Maryland Inspector Competition Begins Saturday Morning, June 7 in Jessup; Truck Inspection Is An Activity of Choose Safety for Life Campaign’s 100 Days of Safety

WHAT: The Maryland Inspector Competition will determine who represents the State in the 16th Annual International North American Inspector Competition, which will be hosted in Houston, Texas in late August. Truck inspectors will be assessed in both written and practical exams, as well as an oral interview.

WHY: The Inspector Competition recognizes exemplary skills in the performance of proper and accurate commercial vehicle inspections – a critical tool in assuring that only safe, properly maintained commercial vehicles travel Maryland roadways. The competition tests the inspector’s ability to physically inspect commercial vehicles and all related components in a systematic, logical and timely manner and to ensure that any defects are identified and noted for repair.
Maryland’s 100 Days of Safety launched early last month as part of the Choose Safety for Life campaign, which includes the four “E’s” of safety: education, engineering, enforcement and Emergency Medical Services. Through exercising the key points represented by B-SAFE: Buckle up, Stay alert, Always Drive Sober, Focus and Everyone share the road, virtually all traffic crash fatalities could be prevented.
Directions: From US 1, take eastbound MD 175 for approximately one-half mile, then turn right onto Pocomoke Avenue. Go one block and turn left on Assateague Drive. Giant Food will be approximately one-half mile on the right. Security at the gate will instruct you where to park and in which room to register.
