Motorists Should Expect Daytime Single Lane Closures

(August 17, 2016) – The Maryland Department of Transportation’s State Highway Administration (SHA) is improving five roads in Cecil, Kent and Queen Anne’s counties.  Weather permitting, all work will be complete by fall 2016.

The $3.8 million project includes resurfacing five highways on the mid and upper shore.  The roads are:

(Pavement patching is complete on both of these projects.)

• MD 213 (Church Hill Road) between the town limits of Centreville and north of Wexford Drive (2.5 miles).  Average daily traffic volume is approximately 7,000 vehicles daily.

 

Current activity:  Grinding (removal of the top layer of asphalt) is scheduled to begin the week of August 22, weather permitting.  Paving to follow.

• MD 302 (Barclay Road) between US 301 (Blue Star Memorial Highway) and the eastern town limits of Barclay (3 Miles). Average daily traffic volume is 3,000 vehicles daily.

 

Current activity:  Grinding (removal of the top layer of asphalt.)  Paving to follow.

• MD 272 (Turkey Point Road) between Hance Point Road and Irishtown Road (2.1 Miles).  Average daily traffic volume is 7,000 vehicles daily.

Current activity:  Grinding (removal of the top layer of asphalt) is scheduled to begin the week of August 29, weather permitting.  Paving to follow.

• MD 781 (Delancy Road) between MD 281 (Red Hill Road) and Danford Drive (one mile). Average daily traffic volume is more than 8,000 vehicles daily.

• MD 213 (Augustine Herman Highway) between Dogwood Drive and the Sassafras River Bridge (1.2 miles).  Average daily traffic volume is 5,000 vehicles daily.  

Current activity:  Grinding (removal of the top layer of asphalt) is scheduled to begin on August 27, weather permitting.  Grinding and paving to follow.

SHA’s contractor, Dave A. Bramble, Inc. of Chestertown, is permitted to close a single lane between 6 a.m. and 6 p.m., Mondays through Fridays.  Crews will use flaggers, cones and barrels to guide motorists through the work zones.

While SHA and its transportation partners work hard to maintain safe traffic mobility in work zones, each driver needs to actively modify his or her driving style to help prevent crashes.
