(April 18, 2016) – With a critical stream relocation under US 301 (Blue Star Memorial Highway) nearly complete, the MD 304 (Ruthsburg Road) interchange project in Queen Anne’s County has quickly begun to rise above the existing road grade. The Maryland Department of Transportation’s State Highway Administration (SHA) is working on fill operations on both sides of US 301. The fill areas will eventually provide the base for two roundabouts and associated ramps. In the US 301 median, preparations are underway for a pier that will support the new interchange overpass.
To provide a safe buffer for pile driving and bridge pier construction, SHA closed the left turn lane from southbound US 301 to eastbound MD 304. Additionally, the US 301 northbound left through lane is closed at the work area. The left turn lane from northbound US 301 to westbound MD 304 was previously closed in conjunction with the closure of MD 304 at Tidewater Drive. Motorists can use existing J-turns along US 301 to change direction and access MD 304 east of US 301.
SHA expects that the median pier should be completed by late summer, weather permitting. The US 301/MD 304 interchange project will convert the existing at-grade intersection to a grade-separated interchange with roundabouts.
Construction season is underway. “
Think Orange” in work zones and slow down and pay full attention. SHA’s
e-Road Ready 2016 electronic construction project brochure is online. Maryland drivers can also know before they go by calling 511 or visiting
