(August 5, 2015) – Beginning tomorrow morning at 10 a.m.(weather permitting), the Maryland Department of Transportation’s (MDOT) State Highway Administration (SHA) will begin daytime closures of the right turn lane on westbound West Cedar Lane at MD 187 (Old Georgetown Road) in Bethesda for sidewalk construction. Weather permitting, this phase of construction should be complete by late fall.
Drivers will use one lane to turn left, right or continue straight through the intersection during the day. The right turn lane will reopen no later than 4 p.m. each weekday.
SHA placed electronic message boards near the intersection earlier this week to warn drivers of the upcoming temporary lane restriction. Drivers should add extra commute time and expect delays during the sidewalk construction. Pedestrian traffic will be maintained at all times, although sidewalk users may have to use the safest crossings within the work zone including those on the opposite side of street
In addition to this project, drivers may also encounter mobile or short-term work zones. Click here for a listing of major SHA projects in Maryland. Always expect the unexpected, pay extra close attention and drive slowly through any work zone. Whether it’s a tree trimming operation or a bridge project, be aware when orange is there: Think Orange (the color of construction equipment and signs), stay alert and slow down. Everyone is at risk.
