(October 5, 2012) – Tomorrow night, the Maryland State Highway Administration (SHA) will temporarily shut down lanes on northbound I-95/I-495 (Capital Beltway) at MD 201 (Kenilworth Avenue) to install a new steel beam for the MD 201 Bridge over I-95/I-495 in Greenbelt. Weather permitting; all lanes should be open by 8 a.m., Sunday morning.
SHA will close one lane on northbound I-95/I-495 at 7 p.m. Saturday night, then two lanes at 9 p.m. and three lanes of I-95/I-495 at 10 p.m. To install the steel beam, total closures of up to 30 minutes may take place between midnight and 5 a.m.
The MD 201 ramp onto northbound I-95/I-495 will remain open during the steel beam insertion operation, but traffic accessing the ramp will be impacted by lane closures on I-95/I-495.
Motorists headed north are encouraged to use MD 295 as an alternate. Motorists continuing around the Capital Beltway toward Montgomery County can use northbound MD 295 to Powder Mill Road west, which becomes MD 212 and connects with southbound I-95 toward westbound I-495.
