(August 3, 2012) – The State Highway Administration (SHA) is performing routine maintenance operations on the Chester River Drawbridge (MD 213 over the Chester River) on Wednesday, August 8 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Crews will open the bridge periodically for test openings that should last no longer than those needed for an average vessel’s passage. All bridge work is weather permitting. The Chester River Bridge connects Queen Anne’s and Kent Counties on MD 213 at Chestertown.
If inclement weather prevents the maintenance work as originally scheduled, it will be conducted on the following day. Message signs, cones and barrels will be used to guide traffic through the work zone. Anyone with questions about the project may contact the SHA District Two Office at 1-800-637-9740.
While SHA and its transportation partners work hard to maintain safe traffic mobility in work zones, each driver needs to actively modify his or her driving style to help prevent crashes. Stay alert and look for reduced speed limits, narrow driving lanes and highway workers. Slow down and don’t follow too closely. Safer driving. Safer work zones. For everyone.
