Washington, D.C. – On November 15th, the United States Department of Transportation and the National Highway Safety Foundation awarded Travelers Marketing along with its public sector partners: Florida’s Turnpike Enterprise, the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission, Florida DOT, Tampa Hillsborough Expressway Authority, Georgia DOT, New York State DOT, Maryland State Highway Administration, Massachusetts DOT and the Kansas Turnpike, the 2011-2012 National Highway Safety Award for its Safety Patrol Sponsorship-Partnerships.

In his remarks at the ceremony, Deputy Secretary of Transportation John Pocari said, “It is a privilege to formally recognize the localities and agencies that were selected for the 2011 National Roadway Safety Awards, each one of this year's entries demonstrated a commitment to saving lives by improving our nation's roadways.”

Greg Cohen, Executive Director of the Roadway Safety Foundation stated, “With the Safety Patrol Sponsorship-Partnership, Travelers Marketing indentified a highly effective transportation program with untapped sponsorship value and forged partnerships with companies whose business interests and corporate missions aligned with the program’s safety objectives.”

This innovative sponsorship program leveraged a significant public sector expense to generate in excess of $30 million for participating states over the term of the current partnerships. These funds are typically reinvested into new safety patrol vehicles, equipment and drivers.  “Our partnership with Travelers Marketing and State Farm has certainly benefitted all the involved parties, but the biggest advantage of the program we’ve experienced is the value to our customers,” says William J. Capone, Director of Communications and Public Relations for the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission, Harrisburg, PA. “The sponsorship has enabled us to significantly enhance the visibility and frequency of our safety patrols and that means more peace of mind for our motorists.”

The Maryland State Highway Administration Deputy Secretary of Transportation, Darrell B. Mobley added, “The award is a reflection of the positive results of government and private industry working together on solutions to better serve our customers.”

All ten of the awarded exemplary programs from across the country were recognized as winners of this biennial award for their excellence and innovation in operations, planning and design, which reduce fatalities and injuries on our Nation’s roadways.
