(October 31, 2011) – The Maryland State Highway Administration (SHA) will perform a routine inspection of the MD 4 (Governor Thomas Johnson) Bridge over the Patuxent River the weekends of November 5, 12 and 19.

Crews will work on site Saturday and Sunday between 6 a.m. and 1 p.m., weather permitting.  Flagpersons will guide motorists through the single-lane work zone.

In addition to biennial inspections of the entire bridge structure, SHA conducts regular monitoring of the bridge deck (riding surface) and performs maintenance, repairs and upgrades to the bridge as appropriate. Constructed in 1977, the Thomas Johnson Bridge carries more than 28,000 vehicles each day between Calvert County and St. Mary’s counties.

While SHA and its transportation partners work hard to maintain safe traffic mobility in work zones, each driver needs to actively modify his or her driving style to help prevent crashes. Stay alert - look for reduced speed limits, narrow driving lanes and highway workers.  Slow down and don't follow too closely.  Safer Driving. Safer Work Zones.  For everyone.
