(October 25, 2011)  -- This weekend, the Maryland State Highway Administration (SHA) will close access from MD 28 (Norbeck Road) onto the ICC /(MD 200).  This permanent closure allows for the construction of a sidewalk along Norbeck Road and the newly constructed Norbeck Road Bridge. When completed, eastbound and westbound MD 28 traffic will revert back to single lane operation between Baileys Lane and Wintergate Drive.

Westbound MD 28 traffic will be directed to use the MD 97 (Georgia Avenue) interchange for access to westbound MD 200.  Eastbound MD 200 motorists will continue to have access to exit at MD 28 until the next segment of the ICC opens to traffic later this year.  The ICC access at MD 28 was temporary until the remaining segment opens.  Drivers should use caution and allow extra travel time for the new traffic pattern.

Beginning Friday night, October 28 from 5 p.m. until Saturday, October 29 at 5 a.m., crews will use a flagging operation along MD 28.  Concrete barrier wall will span the bridge westbound to allow for construction of the bridge sidewalk.  All work is weather permitting.

Maryland now features FREE 511 traveler information! Call 511 or 1-855-GOMD511 or visit: www.md511.org for current travel information. Sign up to personalize travel route information through MY511 on the website. Remember to use 511 safely - Maryland law restricts hand-held mobile phone use and texting while driving.

While SHA and its partners work hard to maintain safe traffic mobility in work zones, each driver needs to actively modify his or her driving style to help prevent crashes. Stay alert - look for reduced speed limits, narrow driving lanes and highway workers. Slow down and don't follow too closely. Safer Driving. Safer Work Zones. For everyone.
