(January 7, 2020) – The Maryland Department of Transportation ​State Highway Administration (MDOT SHA) is monitoring a storm system that will affect Maryland late-morning/early-afternoon Tuesday. Forecasters predict that snow will impact much of the state west and north of the Chesapeake Bay before quickly moving out of the area Tuesday evening. The highest snow accumulations will be in far Western Maryland where the storm may linger into Wednesday morning.

MDOT SHA storm managers will continue to track the storm and deploy equipment and treatment as conditions warrant. MDOT SHA will closely monitor pavement temperatures, which are expected to rise to the upper 30’s to low 40’s as the storm moves out late Tuesday night. However, motorists should be extra cautious through Wednesday morning’s rush hour as temperatures are expected to drop below freezing overnight, causing the potential for icy conditions.

For motorists, “Take It Slow on Ice and Snow,” and remember that speed limits are set for ideal (dry) conditions.
