Motorists Should Expect Nighttime Single Lane Closures
Crews will patch, grind (remove the top layer of asphalt), pave and stripe MD 108, including the 99 space park and ride lot located adjacent to US 29, as well as its access road. SHA will also upgrade/repair guardrail and road signs on MD 108.
Most of the work will take place at night, Sundays through Thursday between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m. Occasionally, crews will need to close one lane Mondays through Fridays between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. Motorists should plan extra commute time if traveling at night in the project area and consider using MD 100 or MD 175 as alternate routes during construction. Crews will need to temporary close the park and ride lot to pave it and will notify commuters with signage.
SHA’s contractor, C.J. Miller of Hampstead, will use barrels, cones and arrow boards to guide motorists through the work zone. Approximately 23,000 vehicles use this section of MD 108 each day, but traffic volumes drop significantly at night.
While SHA and its transportation partners work hard to maintain safe traffic mobility in work zones, each driver needs to actively modify his or her driving style to help prevent crashes. Stay alert and look for reduced speed limits, narrow driving lanes and highway workers. Slow down and don’t follow too closely. Work Zone Safety is in Your Hands.
