Full-Color Signal to Enhance Safety at Rising Sun High School Entrance

(November 20, 2015) – The Maryland Department of Transportation’s State Highway Administration (SHA) has begun construction of a full-color signal at the intersection of MD 272 (North East Road) and Tiger Drive in northern Cecil County. The new signal will replace a modified-T intersection and provide drivers with a greater degree of familiarity and comfort when navigating the intersection. Tiger Drive serves as the entrance to Rising Sun High School from MD 272 in Cecil County.

Work includes removal of existing concrete islands and signal poles, base widening along northbound MD 272 between Fairfield Road and Quaker Lane, construction of new signals, resurfacing/restriping and landscaping.  Completion is estimated at fall 2016, weather permitting.  SHA awarded a $1.8 million construction contract to Daisy Construction of Newport, DE.  On average, about 8,000 vehicles travel this section of MD 272 each day.
