What:

The Maryland Department of Transportation’s State Highway Administration (SHA) is hosting an informational meeting about upcoming bridge rehabilitation for the MD 195 (Carroll Avenue) bridge over Sligo Creek and Sligo Creek Parkway.

Located in Takoma Park, the project includes the complete replacement of the bridge deck (driving surface), beams and columns above the arches, sidewalks, railings, and ornamental lighting.  The project limits along Carroll Avenue extend from the intersection at Jefferson Avenue to the entrance to the Washington Adventist Hospital.

Crews will also construct new sidewalk along the east side of Carroll Avenue between Old Carroll Avenue and the bridge, upgrade existing sidewalks and ramps to comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), and improve roadway drainage. In the interest of safety and expediting the project, the bridge will be closed and traffic will use a signed detour during construction.  Pedestrian traffic will be maintained on a temporary bridge during the closure.

When:

Thursday, September 24 between 6 p.m. and 8 p.m.

Where:

Takoma Park Volunteer Fire Department
7201 Carroll Avenue, Takoma Park, MD 20912

Meeting attendees are directed to park in the public lot on Carroll Avenue, located between 7221 Carroll Avenue (next to Johnny’s Auto Clinic) and 201 Ethan Allen Avenue (next to Takoma Park Silver Spring Food Co-op). FREE Parking is available for meeting attendees.

SHA meeting signs will direct attendees to the Fire Department. The entrance to the meeting room is located behind the Fire Department, in the covered parking lot.  Several spaces closest to the meeting room entrance will be reserved for persons requiring handicapped parking accommodations; all others should park in the public lot.
