The Maryland Department of Transportation’s State Highway Administration (SHA) anticipates overnight demolition work to begin this Sunday on the MD 201 (Kenilworth Avenue) dual bridges over I-95/I-495 (Capital Beltway) in Greenbelt, Prince George’s County. The $5 million rehabilitation project should be complete summer 2011, weather permitting.
As part of the overnight work, drivers can expect lanes to be closed along both sides of I-95/I-495 overnights Sunday through Thursday between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m., double lane closures overnights Sunday through Thursday between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m., and possible triple lane closures overnights Sunday through Thursday between 11 p.m. and 5 a.m. Traffic on the bridge should be unaffected and will be maintained in the current traffic pattern.
Shoulder closures are expected on both sides of I-95/I-495, 24 hours a day for the duration of the project with possible single lane closures Monday through Friday between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m.
The demolition work is expected to last up to two weeks, weather permitting.
