The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration (SHA) terminated the contract with Corinthian Contractors for a safety and enhancement project on MD 5 (Branch Avenue) between Curtis Drive and Suitland Parkway, and MD 637 (Naylor Avenue) between MD 5 and Suitland Parkway. The termination was necessary to address numerous unforeseen issues which caused significant delays on the project.
SHA is in the process of collecting data and information associated with the project’s current status and developing a scope of work for any additional engineering required. Once that is complete, SHA will re-bid the project and work will resume once the competitive bidding process is complete. SHA estimates there is 40 percent of the original scope of work remaining on the project.
In the interim, SHA is evaluating the work site and developing a plan to use existing resources to ensure that the area is safe and useable to the public.
SHA appreciates the community’s patience as we continue to find solutions for this unique situation.
