Closure is Necessary for Motorist and Worker Safety as Crews Continue
Kenilworth Avenue Bridge Repairs; Triple Lane Closures to Begin AFTER Midnight
The Maryland Department of Transportation’s State Highway Administration (SHA) will temporarily close up to three right lanes on northbound I-95/I-495 on Thursday night, April 29 until Friday morning April 30 to continue repairs on the MD 201 (Kenilworth Avenue) Bridge over
I-95/I-495 (Capital Beltway) in Greenbelt, Prince George’s County.
Double-lane closures will begin Thursday night at 10 p.m. in the two right lanes along NB I-95 under the MD 201 Bridge. Triple-lane closures are possible between midnight and 5 a.m., when traffic volumes are the lowest. All lanes will be open to traffic by 5 a.m., weather permitting. This past weekend, SHA bridge crews made initial repairs to the bridge by adding plates to strengthen one of the beams.
Motorists will be able to access all ramps at the I-95/MD 201 interchange. Suggested alternate routes for NB I-95 motorists include MD 295 (Baltimore-Washington Parkway) toward Baltimore, which runs parallel to I-95 or NB MD 295 to MD 193, which runs in an east-west direction to the south of I-95. Truckers may want to consider I-95 to US 50 east to I-97 north as an alternate.
SHA reminds all drivers to buckle up, obey posted speed limits, think orange, and stay alert. Customers who have questions about traffic operations along I-95, MD 201 or other State numbered routes in Prince George’s County may call SHA’s District 3 Office at 301-513-7300 or toll free at 1-800-749-0737.
