Temporary Lane Closures Begin This Week

(June 20, 2016) – The Maryland Department of Transportation’s State Highway Administration (SHA) is continuing a $2.4 million resurfacing project on MD 202 (Landover Road) between Brightseat Road and MD 704 (Martin Luther King Jr. Highway). Weather permitting, the 1.3-mile safety and resurfacing project should be complete late summer.

Crews are permitted to close one lane on MD 202 weekdays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and two lanes Sundays through Thursdays from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.  SHA’s contractor, F.O. Day, Inc. of Rockville, will remove the top layer of layer of asphalt, repave and apply new pavement markings to all traffic lanes.  More than 38,000 vehicles use this section of MD 202 daily.

Preliminary work on the project began in 2015. To date, crews have completed significant portions of sidewalk and curb and gutter work. Once all resurfacing is complete, crews will complete the guardrail installation. Those who have questions about this work may contact the SHA District 3 Office in Greenbelt at 301-513-7300 or 1-800- 749-0737.

While SHA and its transportation partners work hard to maintain safe traffic mobility in work zones, each driver needs to actively modify his or her driving style to help prevent crashes. Stay alert and look for reduced speed limits, narrow driving lanes and highway workers.  Slow down and don’t follow too closely. Work Zone Safety is in Your Hands.

A complete listing of current roadway projects is included in e-Road Ready 2016, SHA’s online brochure. Maryland drivers can also know before they go by calling 511 or visiting www.md511.org for live traffic updates, including construction delays and lane closures.
