Information on long-range Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration (MDOT SHA) projects may be obtained from MDOT SHA’s Regional and Intermodal Planning Division, which is part of MDOT SHA’s Office of Planning and Preliminary Engineering. MDOT SHA Regional and Intermodal Planning staff for each region are responsible for coordinating with county and municipal governments, and with Maryland's seven (7) metropolitan planning organizations (MPOs) to develop MDOT SHA’s portion of Maryland’s annual Statewide Transportation Improvement Program (STIP) and each metropolitan area’s Transportation Improvement Program (TIP). In addition, Regional and Intermodal Planning staff assist in the preparation of the Highway Needs Inventory (HNI), MDOT SHA's long-range, financially-unconstrained planning document, which serves as a source of candidate projects for MDOT’s Consolidated Transportation Program.
